Doncaster residents who are thinking about fostering are invited to join the Trust Fostering team online on Wednesday 20 October.

Members of the Trust Fostering team and foster carers will be hosting two online sessions on the day, from 11am to 12noon and from 7pm to 8pm.

The informal hour session is a great way to learn more about the fostering process before making any decision.

Foster carer, Michelle who became at carer at the end of January 2020 will be among those online to chat through the realities of fostering and the support available through Trust Fostering from the moment you apply and throughout your journey as a carer.

Speaking about the support she received Michelle said: “Fostering is not like looking after your own children, there is a lot of people involved with social workers etc. and you need to able to talk about the things that are happening so you can provide the best possible support to a child in your care.

“Shortly after we had our first child placed with us we went into lockdown that was the moment we realised how important it is to have support. We’ve been really lucky to be a part of Mockingbird, a network of foster carers, who are all there to support each other and share experiences. We also have our own supervising social who is brilliant, she is always available and there if I need her. All this support has been so important. If you’re thinking about fostering just do it! It is hard but very rewarding.”

Michelle will be sharing more about her experiences at the online events and will be joined by members of the experienced fostering team who will be on hand to explain the fostering process and about providing a loving and stable home for the children who need foster placements.

There are many benefits of fostering through Trust Fostering, which is part of Doncaster Children’s Services Trust which delivers fostering services on behalf of Doncaster Council – being a part of an extensive experienced fostering community who are always on hand to offer advice and 24/7 support, comprehensive training and competitive rates.

Katie Fisher, Team Manager for Trust Fostering, said: “We need more people who are thinking about fostering to get in touch. The event is a perfect opportunity to hear from our foster carers, speak to our fostering team and find out more about how you could open up your home and heart and make a difference to the lives of children and young people from Doncaster.”

“Our foster carers come from all backgrounds. The one thing all our carers have in common is they are great listeners and have endless care and love to support our children and young people.

“If this sounds like you, and you are aged over 21 and have at least one spare bedroom, we would love to hear from you.”

To book your place or for more information, contact the fostering team by calling 0808 129 2600 or email asktrustfostering@dcstrust.co.uk Once we've received your request, you will be sent a link to join the event.
