Trust Fostering is launching a Christmas campaign that sets out to bust some of the commonly held myths about fostering.

With a need for more people to come forward to foster a Doncaster child, it is hoped that the campaign will address some of the misconceptions about who can and can’t foster.

The campaign called, the Twelve Myths of Fostering, will be shared on the Trust Fostering Facebook and Twitter pages over the coming weeks. You can view all the animations on YouTube here.

Speaking about the campaign, Head of Service for Placements, Belinda Cashman said: “We know that there are lots of myths about who can foster out there, but most of them are untrue. You don’t have to own a giant house, be married or be a parent – to name just a few examples.

“We need foster carers from all walks of life, if you’re passionate about improving the lives of children and young people, are understanding and a good listener and have a good sense of humour then you’d make a fantastic foster carer. You’ll need at least one spare bedroom and to be over 21 years old too.”

It’s a big decision to decide to foster. That’s why our team hold monthly online information events where you can find out more about the steps involved in becoming a foster carer and the 24/7 support offered by the team. Events planned for 2021 include:

  • Wednesday, 13 January, from 11am to 12noon and from 7pm to 8pm
  • Wednesday 10 February, from 11am to 12noon and from 7pm to 8pm
  • Wednesday 10 March, from 11am to 12noon and from 7pm to 8pm
  • Wednesday 14 April, from 11am to 12noon and from 7pm to 8pm
