A foster carer on and off for almost 20 years, Michelle recently joined Trust Fostering having previously been with an Independent Fostering Agency (IFA).

“Until recently I fostered with an IFA but it just wasn’t working for me, or the little girl I’m looking after. Despite support from my husband and family, I felt isolated and the specialist guidance we sometimes needed wasn’t there.”

“I’d been fortunate in that I had been able to tag-along to some of the Doncaster Foster Carer Association (DFCA) events and I knew almost instantly that I had to move to Trust Fostering. The support for carers, as well as children and young people, was just second to none and I could see that it was the best option for me and the girl I’m caring for.”

“Now I’m with Trust Fostering there really is no comparison; there’s always something happening that we can go to, someone offering advice or even someone there to help out. I’m fortunate to be part of Mockingbird too which means when things get too much, and they do, they do for all of us, there is someone at the end of the phone, or waiting with a cup of tea, 24/7. It never feels like you’re being judged; they just get it and it makes things so much easier.”

Trust Fostering carers are automatically signed up to the DFCA, the locally run charity which aims to support foster carers by helping them to build networks and friendships, offering trips and events for foster families to get involved in, and by promoting the needs of foster carers to Doncaster Children’s Services Trust.
